Common FAQs

We believe there’s a good pet for every good person. And we’ll work hard to help you find your match! To adopt at GHHS, you must be at least 21 years of age. We welcome all folks, from any county or state.

Please know: some animals have special requirements. Of course, people have requirements, too! That’s why we’ll ask that you complete an application prior to meeting the animals, so that we can help you match up better.

If you have a dog and wish to adopt another, we may require a dog-to-dog interaction. Give us a call if you have questions!
First, you’ll complete an application. You can do this when you arrive, or save time by bringing a completed one with you. An application is required to visit an animal. See the next section for the applications.

Then, submit your application to our adoptions front desk. While not required, after visiting with an animal, you may place a hold on him/her. Holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.

After you’ve found your match, we’ll complete an adoption meeting, when we’ll help you prepare for your new friend. While there are exceptions, adoptions are typically same day.

Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting, and bring your driver’s license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for your current pets.

Please note: Adoptions at GHHS are first come, first served, first approved!
Stop in at the shelter and pick up an application. You can complete it here or take it home and bring it back.
Adoption fees include the animal's:
  • Spay/Neuter Surgery
  • Initial Healthcheck
  • Current Vaccinations
  • Initial Dewormer
  • Heartworm Tests
Adoption fees not only cover the above services, but also offset the cost of caring for the animals prior to being adopted. Thank you for your adoption fee!
In addition to covering the cost to spay/neuter and vaccinate the animals, adoption fees help offset the cost of caring for the animals prior to being adopted. Thank you for your adoption fee!
